1:21PM: And now we're into the last picture of night, as the party was held at V&A.
1:19PM: Thank you to everyone who's entered a photo from the night, and to those who've entered a video. If you didn't win one, this one gives a great idea of what some the videos were from: A new study finds that a generation of gene-editing technology could help eradicate malaria, but it doesn't get to the root of disease: a shortage antibiotics.
The new technology involves "targeting malaria-causing genetic material" by transferring it from one organism to a different and "curing" the transfer by adding antibiotics to the recipient's genetic material.
Researchers used a technique called gene-editing CRISPR-Cas9 to engineer malaria-resistant mosquitoes; these modified mosquitoes are then released into a mosquito lab, where they infect the mosquitoes that carry Malaria parasite.
As a next step, researchers injected the modified mosquitoes with a cocktail of antibiotics that killed all the malaria-causing mosquitoes in lab.
"Because our vector is malarial, it was possible to produce a malaria parasite that is resistant to all current drugs," said Dr. William Cushing, senior author of the report published in journal Science.
If a similar approach is used to cure tuberculosis or HIV,
Metformin rezeptfrei bestellen "this represents a major breakthrough in the ability to deliver therapy infected people for the first time," said Dr. Cushing, an infectious diseases specialist at the Wellcome Trust, who was also senior fellow in the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Oxford, UK.
In the experiment, genetically engineered females were released into a laboratory and infected with the

"In the laboratory we see that have a 100 percent mortality rate in the modified females; we were hoping they would go extinct within 48 hours," Cushing told ABC News.
With regard to why these modified mosquitoes are being hailed as a possible cure for malaria, "we think this new approach could take fight forward to new strategies treat malaria, including the new generation of drugs," Cushing said.
"There are currently an estimated 20 million malaria cases, with an estimated 500,000 newborn deaths each year

Monsanto will receive $5,000,000 in U.S. crop payments for seeds that "can be saved, reused, and/or replanted." Monsanto also will receive additional fees for the production of other products, such as herbicides and insecticides.
"Monsanto has committed its entire seed business to reducing its own carbon footprint, while also creating innovative and sustainable products for its customers," Monsanto spokeswoman Charla Lord said in a statement. "As matter of policy and in response to customer feedback, Monsanto will no longer purchase GM corn seeds."
That's quite a bit less than the $5 billion company once promised in compensation to farmers who planted GM seeds. Last week, Monsanto's Chief Financial Officer David Richards announced that the company had missed $1.2 billion in U.S. corn crop insurance for 2005, resulting in $1.4 billion net write-downs.
Monsanto orlistat capsules for weight loss agreed to compensate 7.5 million farmers affected or expected to be by what

Under program, farmers in the United States who planted GM seeds between March 23, 1999, and October 29, 1998, were promised seed fees ranging between $9 and $25 per acre. Most of those farmers have no intention of re-planting their corn seed, however.
Monsanto was one of the first companies to introduce patented GM seed technology, and its seeds have been used by more than 60 percent of the GM seed planted in United States. The only GM crop that has been in serious competition with Monsanto's technology is GM corn, and that expected to gradually disappear. Baylor football: 'We have no interest' in head coach Art Briles
